She announced she is expecting her first
child back in April and tennis champ Serena Williams's growing bump was
clear to see on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old covered up her changing shape in a sporty white vest top, worn underneath a camouflage print jacket.
'It's a GIRL!' Pregnant Serena
Williams showed off her baby bump at the French Open on Wednesday - as
her sister Venus confirmed the gender of her unborn tot.
News breaker: Venus was asked
about the baby in a post-match interview, where she referred to the her
as 'she' and said she wanted the tot to be named after her
Referring to the baby as 'she', she said 'I want to be known as the favourite aunt.'
Making it quite clear the baby is a girl,
she added: 'We're a like baby V, baby Lyn, baby Esher, we all want the
baby to be named after us.'
Sitting to
watch her sister Venus take on the second round at the French Open,
Serena appeared in very high spirits as she sat down, giggling.
She
wore her raven locks in pretty curls which flowed down past her
shoulders and balanced a pair of designer shades on her head.
There for one another: Serena
showed up to watch her sister Venus in action at Roland Garros, covering
her bump in a camouflage jacket.
Looking naturally beautiful, she completed her look with a pair of comfortable looking leggings.
Serena, who attended the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix at Circuit de Monaco in Monte-Carlo on Sunday, has lots to smile about.
A special day for both of them: Venus beat Kurumi Nara 6-3, 6-1 to book her place in the last 32 at the French Open.
Lots to talk about: Serena chatted to a fan in a blue jacket on Court Philippe Chatrie as she watched her sister reign supreme
In December 2016, she broke the unexpected news that the couple were engaged to be married.
Recalling
how he proposed, Serena wrote on Reddit: 'I came home late. A little
late. Someone had a bag packed for me. And a carriage waited.
Destination: Rome.
'To escort me to my very own "charming". Back to where our stars first collided. And now it was full circle.
Taking care of herself: Williams is currently expecting and is taking no part in the French Open this season.
Sitting back and relaxing: Serena looked relaxed in France as she attended the tournament she has won three times
'At the same table we first met by chance. But by choice. Down on knee. He said 4 words. And I said yes.' (sic)
They
were said to have caught each other's eyes in 2015 but the Reddit
co-founder didn't appear on Serena's Instagram page until 2016.
While Serena wasn't wearing an engagement ring on the day, friends have said the star is happier than ever.
And sister Venus appears to be having a run of good luck as well.
She
was 3-2 down to Kurumi Nara when Serena arrived on to Philippe
Chatrier, where she promptly reeled off seven games in a row, and only
lost one more game in the match.
With
the 23-time Grand Slam champion looking on, Williams sealed her place in
the last 32 with a 6-3, 6-1 win against the Japanese world No 90.
Williams’
backhand was particularly impressive, providing 12 of her 30 winners.
Her 5ft 1in opponent could never match Williams for power, and Nara
could manage just six winners of her own.
In
a tournament with no favourites, this year’s Australian Open runner up –
to her sister Serena, of course - must surely be considered among a
dozen or so outsiders for the title here in Paris.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion is in a rich vein of form as she approaches her 37th birthday.
Clay
is not her best surface, but she reached the final here in 2002. She
was watched by Serena on that day as well, but from the other side of
the net.
Her movement is superb on any
surface, and while she doesn’t glide around the court as she does on
grass, Venus would run gracefully in a sand pit, never mind on clay.
Before the tournament, 1978 US Open finalist and ESPN analyst Pam Shriver backed Williams to contend at Roland Garros.
‘Coming off what she did at the Australian Open, knowing her sister is not in the draw, why not?’ she said.
‘She’s
actually more of a capable clay court player than most people think.
When you consider the big hitters in the women’s game that have won,
Sharapova twice in the last four or five years, Muguruza last year,
Venus is one of the possibilities.’
Looking lovely: Serena also
showed off her bump in a thigh-skimming dress at Monaco Formula One
Grand Prix at Circuit de Monaco in Monte-Carlo on Sunday
