Lightning turned night into day across the UK after thunderstorms battered much of southern Britain overnight causing flash floods which ripped through a Cornish village.

Rescue services were also sent out to pump water out of properties in the south east overnight after heavy downpours caused water levels to rise.

Meanwhile teams in Kent spent two hours overnight removing water from homes in Tunbridge Wells after sixty emergency calls were made in less than an hour including reports of more than 3ft of water in some properties.

Former EastEnders star Paul Nicholls is in hospital with serious injuries today after plunging from a waterfall in Thailand and smashing his leg as he fell into a rock pool - where he remained trapped without food for three days.
The actor, 38, had been exploring the Khun Si Falls on the island of Koh Samui when the accident occurred, leaving him in need of complete knee reconstruction.
He was trapped in the rock pool for an agonising 72 hours and has since confessed: 'I'm lucky to be alive.'
Mr Nicholls, who shot to fame as Joe Wicks on the BBC soap, had been exploring the jungle when he plummeted from the top of the waterfall - where he is thought to have been taking a selfie - leaving him unable to move.
Footage has emerged of Mr Nicholls crying out in pain before emergency services stretcher him to safety - although it took two hours to arrive at International Koh Samui Hospital, due to his remote location.

Domino's has rostered on every available staff member in its NSW and QLD stores in anticipation of the influx of orders expected during the State of Origin decider.

A 14-year-old girl has died and 24 others were injured when a minibus carrying children on a school art trip crashed with a bin lorry this morning.

Pupils from John Taylor High School in Barton under Needwood, Staffordshire were on a day out when the collision took place in Kingsbury Road, Birmingham this morning.
The minibus collided with a refuse truck around 9am causing injuries to 25 people on board, including four adults.

Emergency services have confirmed one girl died at the scene, another was taken to hospital and 19 other pupils were treated at the roadside. The lorry's driver was unhurt.
