Emergency services were called to the home in Rosamond Street at around 9am this morning by panicked neighbours.
Photographs from the scene appeared to show the house completely gutted out, with fire damage to both floors.
Eyewitnesses claimed that several people were badly hurt in the blaze, with a dozen paramedics rushed to the scene.
The fire broke out in a street off St Helen's Road, the main route through the Daubhill and Deane areas of Bolton leading into Bolton town centre.
Police have confirmed a 'serious house fire' but no further details have been released as yet. The public are being urged to stay away from the area.
Reports on social media reveal there is a large presence of police, paramedics and firefighters at the scene and surrounding roads have been closed off.
The scene has completely been sealed off and the public have been urged to avoid the area.
The Manchester Evening News is reporting there have tragically been multiple fatalities.
Police have confirmed they are at the “serious house fire” but no other details have been released.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “We attended a serious house fire on Rosamond Street in Bolton. Officers and firefighters are at the scene along with firefighters and paramedics.
“We urge the public to stay away from the area as road closures will be in force for the foreseeable future.”
Dramatic pictures show a ladder resting against a charred house with paramedics stood by a plastic covering nearby.
The street is still cordoned off but people who live in neighbouring properties are being allowed back into their homes
